Following previous discussions on <em>nubuwwa<\/em> (prophethood), this session focuses on classical debates surrounding <em>qadar<\/em>, theological perspectives, and historical interpretations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main Themes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The Connection Between Predestination, Human Actions, and Taw\u1e25\u012bd<\/strong>: The seminar examines how the belief in God\u2019s omniscience relates to human free will, shaping Islamic perspectives on destiny.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Freedom in Classical Thought vs. the Modern World<\/strong>: Classical discussions on freedom were framed in relation to God, whereas modern debates emphasize state, society, and individual autonomy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ontological Reflections on Destiny<\/strong>: Fundamental existential questions such as \u201cWhy was man created?\u201d and \u201cWhat is the purpose of life?\u201d are explored in relation to <em>qadar<\/em>, evaluating how classical thought addressed these inquiries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>God\u2019s Will and Human Free Will<\/strong>: The seminar discusses how Im\u0101m al-M\u0101tur\u012bd\u012b balances divine actions with human agency, comparing his views to those of the <em>Jabriyya<\/em> (determinists) and <em>Mu\u2018tazila<\/em> (free-will advocates).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Relationship Between Knowledge and Predestination<\/strong>: What can humans know? What can they do? The seminar analyzes how epistemological boundaries relate to destiny and how knowledge and free will are interconnected in Islamic theology.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Problem of Wisdom and Causelessness<\/strong>: The discussion addresses whether God\u2019s actions are purposeful, evaluating different responses to the question, \u201cWhy does God create?\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Predestination in Islamic Thought and Nihilism in the Modern World<\/strong>: Unlike in classical thought, where <em>qadar<\/em> did not pose an existential problem, the modern expansion of the universe and the diminishing role of the individual have contributed to the rise of nihilism.
