Theologians in <em>Kalam<\/em> utilized epistemology as a tool to validate religious beliefs and explored different forms of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main Themes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Definition of Knowledge:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Early theologians defined knowledge as &#8220;believing in something as it is&#8221; (<em>itikad\u00fc\u2019\u015f-\u015fey al\u00e2 m\u00e2 huve bih\u00ee<\/em>), but this definition was later criticized.<\/li>\n<li>Critics argued that this definition failed to address justification and truth conditions adequately and could not exclude imitative knowledge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Possibility of Knowledge:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Theologians developed arguments against Sophists who denied the existence or knowability of truth.
