Additionally, the expansion of Christianity into different regions and the role of church centers in shaping its development are analyzed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Themes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Theodosius and Christianity as the Official Religion<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In 380 CE, Theodosius declared Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire, initiating a significant political and religious transformation.<\/li>\n<li>This decision led to the integration of Christianity into the state apparatus, resulting in the systematic suppression of non-Christian religions and the destruction of pagan temples.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Julian and the Revival of Paganism<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Emperor Julian (361\u2013363 CE) implemented policies opposing Christianity and sought to revive Rome\u2019s pagan heritage.<\/li>\n<li>During his brief reign, Julian promoted pagan education and attempted to restore religious pluralism. However, his efforts ultimately failed after his death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Spread of Christianity Across Regions<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>By the 3rd and 4th centuries, Christianity had spread beyond the borders of the Roman Empire:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Syria and Egypt:<\/strong> Centers like Antioch and Alexandria became hubs of early Christian communities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Armenia and Georgia:<\/strong> Armenia became the first state to officially adopt Christianity, followed by Georgia in 337 CE.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ethiopia and Persia:<\/strong> Ethiopia embraced Christianity in the 330s, developing an independent church structure, while Persian Christians endured persecution yet maintained a presence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Church Centers and Power Dynamics<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria, Rome, and Constantinople emerged as influential religious centers.<\/li>\n<li>Rome\u2019s political and religious centrality elevated its status, while Constantinople asserted itself as the \u201cNew Rome,\u201d vying for dominance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Caesaropapism and Church-State Relations<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>During Theodosius\u2019s reign, the concept of <em>caesaropapism<\/em> emerged, where emperors assumed roles as religious leaders.<\/li>\n<li>While this system left a lasting legacy in Orthodox Christianity, the Western Church, led by the Papacy, pursued a different path in church-state relations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The seminar highlights the institutional and doctrinal transformations of Christianity under the Roman Empire.
