By focusing on Ibn Qutaybah\u2019s <em>Adab al-Katib<\/em> and al-Jahiz\u2019s <em>al-Bayan wa al-Tabyin<\/em>, the seminar analyzes the linguistic shifts of the 3rd century and their impact on Arabic literary theory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main Themes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The Paradigms of Ibn Qutaybah and Al-Jahiz<\/strong>: The contrast between Ibn Qutaybah\u2019s traditional Sunni approach and al-Jahiz\u2019s innovative, Mu\u2018tazilite-centered perspective is explored, highlighting their influence on the development of Arabic literature and linguistics.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Adab al-Katib<\/em> and the Epistemological Foundations of Language<\/strong>: Ibn Qutaybah\u2019s work is analyzed through key concepts such as <em>ma\u2018rifah<\/em> (knowledge), <em>taqwim<\/em> (standardization), and <em>abniyah<\/em> (structures), which form the epistemological basis of language.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Al-Jahiz and the Mu\u2018tazilite Approach to Language<\/strong>: Al-Jahiz\u2019s innovative linguistic theories, influenced by Greek philosophy and Avestan literature, are examined, emphasizing the synthetic nature of his <em>al-Bayan wa al-Tabyin<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Linguistic Shifts of the 3rd Century<\/strong>: Transformations in Arabic linguistics during the 3rd century are analyzed, focusing on the clash between traditionalist (<em>tanqiyat al-\u2018arabiyyah<\/em>) and innovative (<em>tawlid<\/em>) approaches.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Interaction Between Hellenistic and Islamic Thought<\/strong>: The influence of Hellenistic philosophy on linguistics, particularly the integration of ideas from Plato and Aristotle by Arabic linguists, is thoroughly discussed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong>:<br \/>\nSoner G\u00fcnd\u00fcz\u00f6z\u2019s seminar provides an interdisciplinary perspective on the formation of Arabic linguistics and literary theory.
