It presents a philosophical, conceptual, and ontological comparison between Plato and Aristotle, while exploring how Plato conceives knowledge within tekhnē, and how inspiration and knowledge are differentiated in both ancient and modern contexts. Through references to Kant, Parmenides, and Aristotle, the seminar reconsiders philosophy as a mode of orientation toward truth.

Main Themes and Topics

Philosophy as Tekhnē and the Nature of Knowledge
In Plato, philosophy is defined as tekhnē, a knowledge-based form of production that transcends distinctions between science, craft, and art. It is both theoria and praxis. Haşlakoğlu argues that knowledge is integral to tekhnē, and therefore to philosophy itself.

Kant’s Aesthetic Idea and the Inspiration–Knowledge Distinction
By contrasting Kant’s separation of aesthetic and rational ideas, Haşlakoğlu re-examines Plato’s mimesis–epistēmē relationship. While Kant claims that art does not convey knowledge, Plato includes art within the domain of tekhnē, and therefore, knowledge. This distinction is expanded through the concepts of aesthetic experience, memory, and inspiration (mousikē).

Philosophos vs. Sophos: Transcendence and the Madness of the Mind
For Plato, the philosopher is an “erotic” figure—enchanted and unbalanced (ekphrōn). Truth is accessed not through control but through transformation (epistrophē), which can only be properly oriented within the structure of tekhnē guided by the sophos. Thus, philosophy becomes an existential state rooted in wonder, love, and inner change.

The Topos of Philosophy Through Psukhē, Logos, Nous, and Gnosis
In Plato’s system, the landscape of philosophy is the soul (psukhē). Its threefold structure (logistikon, thymos, epithymia) enables philosophical activity. Haşlakoğlu compares the functions of nous (intellect), gnosis (knowledge), and logos across Parmenides, Plato, and Aristotle.

Parmenides and the Third Path: Doxa, Non-Being, and Cognition
The seminar concludes with an analysis of Parmenides’ thesis “noein = einai” (to think = to be), showing how Plato transforms this by postulating an object of cognition within doxa—something that “is not” (meon). In Sophist, this object becomes tateron (otherness), enabling the intelligibility of motion and becoming.

Conclusion
This seminar reinterprets philosophy in Plato as a “knowledge-bearing tekhnē,” establishing a bridge to modern philosophy. Philosophy is only possible through the soul’s return to truth, guided by logos and the contemplation of eidos. By integrating sophistic and technical dimensions, Haşlakoğlu reconstructs Plato’s thought within a renewed ontological framework, in dialogue with Aristotle and Kant.

OĞUZ HAŞLAKOĞLU:PLATON, DEVLET 15.
