All multiplicity in the universe emanates from this One through a structured hierarchy involving intellects, souls, and celestial spheres.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> The Eternity of the World<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Philosophers claim that the universe has no temporal beginning. Instead, it emanates from God timelessly and necessarily. This doctrine of eternal emanation (<em>\u1e63ud\u016br<\/em>) directly conflicts with Islamic <em>kal\u0101m<\/em> theology, which affirms creation <em>ex nihilo<\/em> in time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> The Doctrine of Emanation and the First Intellect<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Only one being\u2014the First Intellect\u2014emanates directly from God. This intellect comprehends three things: God, itself, and its own contingent nature. From this triadic cognition, a new set of beings arises: a second intellect, a soul, and a celestial sphere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> The Hierarchical Chain of Emanation<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Each intellect gives rise to the next intellect and soul through its internal acts of knowledge. Thus, a structured cosmological chain is formed: God \u2192 First Intellect \u2192 Second Intellect \u2192 \u2026 \u2192 Active Intellect \u2192 Material World. This structure explains the complexity of the universe while maintaining the unity of its origin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> The Active Intellect and the Human Soul<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The final link in this emanative chain is the Active Intellect. It serves as the source of all intellectual and sensory knowledge for humans. By connecting with it, the human soul attains both understanding and spiritual elevation\u2014a hallmark of Avicennan epistemology.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In this sixth session, al-Ghaz\u0101l\u012b presents the philosophers\u2019 cosmology based on the doctrine of <em>\u1e63ud\u016br<\/em> (emanation). The universe is not directly created in time but unfolds gradually from the First Being through a hierarchy of intelligences and souls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This model accounts for cosmic multiplicity while preserving divine unity. Though the eternity of the world clashes with traditional Islamic theology, al-Ghaz\u0101l\u012b here refrains from critique.
