yer adlar\u0131, ses de\u011fi\u015fmeleri, \u00c7in-T\u00fcrk etkile\u015fimi, federatif kimlik yap\u0131lar\u0131, sosyal hiyerar\u015fi, ka\u011fanl\u0131k anlay\u0131\u015f\u0131 ve halk\u2013devlet ili\u015fkisi \u00e7ok y\u00f6nl\u00fc olarak a\u00e7\u0131klanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Bu sat\u0131rlar sayesinde eski T\u00fcrk toplumunun d\u00fcnya g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015f\u00fc, devlet tasavvuru ve dil yap\u0131s\u0131 b\u00fct\u00fcnl\u00fckl\u00fc bi\u00e7imde yeniden g\u00f6r\u00fcn\u00fcr h\u00e2le gelmektedir.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose of the Seminar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This seminar aims to examine in detail the place names, directional terms, social structure of early Turkic society, philological analyses, comparisons with Chinese sources, and the concept of Turkish identity through lines 17\u201322 of the eastern face of the K\u00fcl Tegin inscription. The historical semantic changes of the words, foreign-origin components, title structures, phonetic differences, and cultural background are explained on an expert level.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Temirkap\u0131g and the Use of Place Names<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is explained that Temirkap\u0131g and similar place names appear not with their basic literal meanings but as proper names in the texts; words such as <em>temir<\/em> and <em>kap\u0131g<\/em> never occur with their simple meanings, and that\u2014like <em>kedim\/kedimlik<\/em>\u2014certain words shift from their real meaning to technical senses such as \u201carmored.\u201d<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> The Concepts of Home, Threshold, and Space<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is shown that terms like yurt, orducak, and merkez correspond to different meanings of \u201chome\u201d in Old Turkic; and that the forms <em>e\u015fik\/esik<\/em> used for the felt-tent doorway are connected to Tuvinian and Kazakh, revealing traces of spatial terminology.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Direction Terms and Historical Diversity<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The historical development of west-designating words such as <em>keri, kuru,<\/em> and <em>kedin<\/em> is examined; the spread of Arabic direction terms in Islamic-period Turkic languages, and the preservation of older direction words among steppe peoples are evaluated as reflections of linguistic variety.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong> The Structure garu\/ger\u00fc and the Question of Affixation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The origin of the element <em>-garu<\/em> in forms like <em>i\u00e7geri<\/em> and <em>ta\u015fgaru<\/em> is discussed; it is stated that this was likely a two-syllable old word that later became an affix and acquired new forms through phonological harmony.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong> Campaign Narratives and the Demir Kap\u0131 Region<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The scope of the military expeditions to the west and north, the geographical position of Demir Kap\u0131, and the narrative context of crossing the K\u00f6gmen mountains to reach the land of the Kyrgyz are analyzed.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong> Semantic Distinctions Among A\u015fmak \u2013 Ge\u00e7mek \u2013 \u00d6tmek<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The semantic differentiation among these verbs\u2014such as crossing a mountain, passing a river, and time moving forward\u2014is examined; modern fossilized usages derived from <em>\u00f6tmek<\/em> are exemplified.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><strong> The Structure Kamak\/Kamu and Numbers<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is explained that <em>5\u201330 s\u00fcrediniz<\/em> means \u201cyou made 25 expeditions,\u201d but that only 13 involved battle; and that <em>kamak\/kamu<\/em> is of Sogdian origin, with attestations in Manichaean texts.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong> The Necessity of Comparison with Chinese Sources<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The seminar emphasizes that verifying the expeditions historically requires Chinese annals, and introduces the Japanese, Russian, and Western sinological traditions that study K\u00f6kt\u00fcrk history.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><strong> Titles, Warfare, and Social Hierarchy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Expressions like <em>kul\u2013k\u00fcng<\/em>, <em>eldigik\u2013elsiz<\/em>, and <em>tizlik s\u00f6k\u00fcrtmek<\/em> are explained as reflections of social categories and dominance relations; political expressions such as \u201cmaking the rulerless\u201d or \u201cforcing the proud to bow\u201d are analyzed.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li><strong> The Debate on the Origin of T\u00fcrk\/T\u00fcr\u00fck<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The historical development of the forms <em>T\u00dcRK\/T\u00dcR\u00dcK<\/em>, their standardization in Uygur texts, their forms in Chinese sources, and the scholarly debate on whether this was an ethnic name are examined in depth.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li><strong> The T\u00fcrge\u015f and the Political Context<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The phrase \u201cThe T\u00fcrge\u015f Khagan was our T\u00fcrk\u201d is explained as referring not to an ethnic identity but a federative structure; the political criticism regarding the T\u00fcrge\u015f ruler\u2019s mistakes and the people\u2019s suffering is analyzed.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"12\">\n<li><strong> The Concept Emgek\/Emek and the History of \u201cSuffering\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The relation between <em>emgek<\/em> and modern expressions like \u201cemek \u00e7ekmek,\u201d the Uygur forms <em>emgemek\/emgenmek,<\/em> and the Kazakh <em>engek<\/em> are discussed in terms of semantic continuity.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"13\">\n<li><strong> Ancestral Land, Ownership, and Organizing the People<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The idea that ancestral lands must not remain ownerless; the organization and ordering of the Az and Kyrgyz peoples; and the cultural weight of terms like e\u00e7i\u2013apa are examined.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"14\">\n<li><strong> The Kyrgyz Khagan and the Issue of Kun\u00e7uy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The titles of the Kyrgyz, their relations with the Turks, the Chinese origin of <em>kun\u00e7uy<\/em>, and the downfall of the Kyrgyz ruler and people due to their own mistakes are contextualized historically.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"15\">\n<li><strong> Slavery, Social Collapse, and the Breakdown of Family Hierarchy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>From a period in which even slaves had slaves, to the collapse caused by prosperity-induced arrogance; the deterioration of ini\u2013e\u00e7i relations and the breakdown between son and father are interpreted as signs of social decay.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"16\">\n<li><strong> The Unity of El\u2013T\u00f6re and the State Order<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The sentence <em>Anca kazganm\u0131\u015f anca etmi\u015f elimiz t\u00f6remiz erti<\/em> is explained as referring to the acquisition and organization of the state and its legal order.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"17\">\n<li><strong> Unless the Sky Collapses and the Earth Cracks\u2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>One of the inscription\u2019s most emblematic passages\u2014\u201cUnless the sky collapses above and the earth cracks below, who could destroy the state and law of the T\u00fcrk people?\u201d\u2014is interpreted as linking the state to a cosmic order, with the implication that only internal failure causes decline.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the seminar, the central portion of the K\u00fcl Tegin inscription is analyzed both philologically and historically. Place names, sound changes, Chinese\u2013Turkic interaction, federative identity structures, social hierarchy, the concept of khaganate, and the relationship between people and state are explained in a multifaceted way.
